We Wish You a Merry Fitmas!

I usually write blogs on health and fitness, so naturally I had to come up with a Christmas song related to fitness. This one is an original to be sung to the tune of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”! I thought this fitmas song would put you in a healthy holiday spirit.

On the first day of Christmas my trainer gave to me, a challenge to be healthy!

Did you know that the average person gains seven to ten pounds during the holiday season? Yep! We get into the “I’ll wait ’til New Year’s” mentality, and that means no healthy food or workouts for at least six weeks. It’s almost like we accept we’re going to gain weight every holiday season, but why put our health on the back burner and gain weight when it’s not necessary?

Most people I talk to just want to survive this holiday season. I say, let’s change our mindset and thrive this holiday season!

4 Self-Care Tips for the Holidays

As I started writing this piece, I realized these weren’t only tips for the holiday season but for fall in general. In talking with my friends, moms or otherwise, we realized that once fall starts all the madness begins. It’s back to school, the beginning of activities for our kids, and countless events in the community. And then it’s Halloween and Thanksgiving and all of the December holiday festivities, not to mention birthdays and everything else in between. Ahhh! It’s enough to make you want to crawl back in bed and stay there. But who has time for that?!

As women we hear constantly how we need to take more time out for ourselves, but as we all know it’s easier said than done. I struggle with feelings of guilt or the idea that I should be tending to my never-ending to-do list and crossing more things off. Or if I have free time unexpectedly, it should always be spent with my girls, who I love more than anything in this world.  But then I realize that taking some time for myself is okay, and makes me a better mom, wife, daughter, sister, employee, and friend.

When I’m given the time to recharge, I’m not only better for myself but for all those who depend on me. Don’t get me wrong, I need to remind myself of that often. But instead of only reminding myself, I thought I could remind you as well. And share four self-care tips that I hope we will all find useful!

Behind the Scenes of Our Hunt Family Christmas Card

Coming up on four years of marriage, it’s been brought to my attention that every couple (family) has their thing. This sort of thing develops over time. I’m not talking about the likes of communication, respect, compassion but rather the silly things that also bring us happiness—game nights, barbeques, matching pj’s, road trips.

Christmas cards. This is the new Hunt Family thing. It just happened.

Rachel Santschi’s Melt-in-Your-Mouth Fudge

To me, life and its experiences have always been intrinsically tied to the food we create and consume together. Food has a way of wrapping around our hearts, stirring up magic, and unlocking memories. And have you noticed how everyone’s favorite recipe has a story? I always feel like it’s such a privilege to hear these stories from a dear friend or beloved family member while they’re cooking or serving the dish. So as a special holiday treat, I asked a few of the Behaviorists to share their own holiday stories along with a favorite recipe.

This week Rachel’s sharing her family recipe for melt-in-your-mouth fudge, and she swears it disappears within minutes! I can’t wait to try this one. Read on for her recipe and some sweet memories from growing up with this fudge.
