Coming up on four years of marriage, it’s been brought to my attention that every couple (family) has their thing. This sort of thing develops over time. I’m not talking about the likes of communication, respect, compassion but rather the silly things that also bring us happiness—game nights, barbeques, matching pj’s, road trips.

Christmas in July: DIY Stocking Holder

Oh, the weather outside is frightful… Frightfully hot, that is! Every year around this time, as the temperatures rise and those lazy summer days start to get a little repetitive, I remember that one of my favorite “non-holidays” is approaching—Christmas in July!

In addition to a nice little marketing gimmick that breaks up the slow retail stretch between July 4th and back-to-school promotions, Christmas in July is also a fun way for folks to get their mind off the heat and start thinking ahead to the holiday season. And for me, it’s the perfect excuse to use some of my festive decorations an extra day or two each year!

Song of the Week: “Jingle Bells” by Barbra Streisand

I grew up in a very close-knit family where one of the biggest contributors to our closeness was all the family trips we took. In particular, the trips we made every year, for either Thanksgiving or Christmas, to visit my grandparents in Mississippi.

The best part about those trips? The Christmas music.

My Toddlers Are on a Mission: Operation Christmas Child

Having just left a memorial service for a baby that lived only five days in this world, I know I am coming at this piece from a serious place. But let’s face it, there’s a real seriousness that comes with raising kids. There’s a sense of responsibility to teach them truth and guide them on a path that will prepare them to navigate our crazy world. With Christmas, this is especially true.
