Did you know that the average person gains seven to ten pounds during the holiday season? Yep! We get into the “I’ll wait ’til New Year’s” mentality, and that means no healthy food or workouts for at least six weeks. It’s almost like we accept we’re going to gain weight every holiday season, but why put our health on the back burner and gain weight when it’s not necessary?

Most people I talk to just want to survive this holiday season. I say, let’s change our mindset and thrive this holiday season!

Marzia's Pumpkin Pie Smoothie | Model Behaviors

Marzia’s Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

Jack-o’-lanterns aren’t just for carving. They’re for eating too! I don’t know about you, but I love pumpkin season. It’s that time of year where it’s pumpkin everything—pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, and pumpkin pie smoothies. Yep, you read that right…pumpkin pie smoothies. Here in Texas, fall is pretty warm until November. So a cold pumpkin pie smoothie on hot fall day gets me in the holiday spirit.

Besides the wonderful taste pumpkin has, nutritionally, it gives you a reason to eat or drink it even more. Pumpkins’ orange color means they’re loaded with the antioxidant beta-carotene, which is one of the plant carotenoids converted to Vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A is essential for healthy, glowing skin, strong eyesight, and our immune system. Pumpkins are also high in vitamin C. With cold season around the corner, this is just the protection we need.

This pumpkin pie smoothie will bring that fall feeling with every sip you take. so break out the blender and mix one up this season!

Wellness Wednesday: SHINE

Who knew I would become a lifestyle transformation coach for a living? Years ago, when I was living as Miserable Marzia, I would’ve never imagined it. But I know from firsthand experience that change is always possible!

Watching the fireworks shows this past Fourth of July, I realized in life, we meet people who bring out the best in us. When we’re around them, we burst and shine bright like a spectacular fireworks display. But then there are people who bring out the opposite. Around them, we are like a dud firecracker. We sparkle for a moment, but ultimately nada. We want to light on fire but no sparks fly. It took me a long time to understand that I could catch on fire from other people’s positive energy and shine bright into the universe.

How to Be a Healthinista on Vacation

For most people the words “healthy” and “vacation” do not go together.

I get it. You work hard so you want to play hard. But depending on how long your vacation is, it’s not a reason to go on a super binger and be lazy. The pounds will catch up to you, and the aftermath is not so much fun. You can easily eat 3000 calories in one meal, but it will take more than a week to work that off! This isn’t meant to be harsh because, believe me, we’ve all been there.

So, how do you eat healthy and still have fun on vacation?
