Behind the Scenes of Our Hunt Family Christmas Card

Coming up on four years of marriage, it’s been brought to my attention that every couple (family) has their thing. This sort of thing develops over time. I’m not talking about the likes of communication, respect, compassion but rather the silly things that also bring us happiness—game nights, barbeques, matching pj’s, road trips.

Christmas cards. This is the new Hunt Family thing. It just happened.

Each year we try to outdo the year before. We develop themes. We color coordinate our wardrobe. We incorporate cryptic messages to see if anyone picks up on them. We even try to handwrite small messages on the back. And over the years, we’ve found our perfect crew to help us get the job done. I’d like to send a special thank-you to each and every member of our crew. You’re our family and spending time with you all is just as meaningful to us as the memories captured in these Christmas cards. Today’s DIY project is the making of our 2015 card. Thank you for joining Model Behaviors this holiday. From my family to yours, Merry Christmas!

Since we were unable to join the Chiefs in London this year because FC Dallas was in the playoffs, we decided that England-meets-Texas High Tea would be the theme for this year’s Christmas card. And what better place says teatime than the chicken coop at our ranch!

Little did we know that we picked the wettest time of year to schedule our shoot, so we had to tarp the coop. That’s dedication!

We brought Darlington’s fun pink chairs and tea sets to add a whimsical touch to the scene. This year we invited Drew from Kharis Media to capture this moment on video. Normally we don’t shoot video for Christmas cards, but with Darlington around, we don’t want to miss out on these opportunities. She’s just growing so fast!

And of course we needed the keen eye of an attorney to make sure the set was looking just right. Thankfully photographer Simon Lopez’s wife Ann was on hand to provide her expertise.

And lastly, I don’t take a photo or go anywhere without the help of Kelly Whaley. She is my go-to gal for covering up mom bags under my eyes and those pesky gray hairs when mama doesn’t have time to go to the salon.

It’s important that all our babies be a part of our card. With the recent addition of the coop to the ranch, we had tons of babies also making their first formal appearance.

Once the best photo is chosen, I send it on to Mathes and Co. to create the perfect card. Not only did they help us plan the most wonderful winter wedding, they’ve been responsible for all of our Christmas and specialty materials. Here was our first Christmas card as Mr. & Mrs. Hunt.

And recently they helped us introduce Darlington to all of our friends and family.

Thank you all for reading! Join us next month for another DIY project.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
