Domestic Violence Awareness Month: How to Rebuild Self-Worth

Escaping domestic violence can be a traumatic experience for anyone. Often, victims of abuse suffer from PTSD, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, because of the treatment they’ve endured. It’s important for survivors to know that they are not alone, that help is available, and that they are not to blame.

“Many victims are left feeling that their lives and feelings are out of control. Counselors focus on empowerment, a process of rebuilding a sense of personal power. By finding ways to build this sense of empowerment within yourself, you will be directing yourself in a positive direction,” writes Safe Passage.

MB Collective: Domestic Violence Awareness Month

For our collective post this month, I asked the ladies to get a little personal and a little vulnerable about a topic that affects us all—domestic violence. On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men (source). There are campaigns like No More, It’s On Us, and Futures Without Violence that raise a national voice to this issue, and I highly encourage you to check out each of them. Today, to honor Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Behaviorists share their own experiences with domestic violence and why they are dedicated to ending it.

Wellness Wednesday: EXPLORE

This month marks Courtney’s one-year anniversary since joining the team of MB Behaviorists! In that time she’s become a weekly contributor with her Song of the Week posts, she’s interviewed several powerhouse women, and she’s written some great Miles posts about Scotland and Tyler, Texas. She’s even written movie reviews and fashion pieces, so I think it’s only appropriate that the word she’s chosen for us this month is “explore” because she’s always game to delve into a new subject and tackle any crazy project I throw at her!

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Courtney shares with us a heartfelt journey she’s recently taken, starting in February of this year.
