7 Must-See NFL Games to Watch This Month

With football season upon us, here is a guide to September’s NFL watch list!

It’s hard to narrow it down to just a few games, but let’s face it, we don’t have all the time in the world to watch every game, despite what most of male society may try to argue. I chose the top games that I’ll definitely be making time for and recommend you do the same.

Note: Chronological order and all times are Central.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs New England Patriots

Thursday, September 10th at 7:30 p.m.

The defending Super Bowl champions will face the Steelers to kickoff this season’s Thursday Night Football. This primetime showdown will feature the high-powered Steelers offense, led by QB (quarterback) Ben Roethlisberger and WR (wide receiver) Antonio Brown. The Patriots lost a few key defensive players, Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner, but they will now have one of their key offensive weapons, Tom Brady. As I’m sure you’ve heard, Brady was initially suspended four games due to his knowledge of the deflated footballs during last year’s Super Bowl, but that has since been overturned. Earlier this month, Judge Richard M. Berman nullified the suspension and all of Boston rejoiced. It isn’t over yet though because NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league has already appealed the decision, meaning #Deflategate continues.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Tennessee Titans

Sunday, September 13th at 3:25 p.m.

These were the two worst teams in the NFL last year, but yes, you’ll want to watch this game. Florida State’s Jameis Winston and Oregon’s Marcus Mariota have both won the Heisman Trophy, played in national championship games, met in the Rose Bowl and were drafted at number one and two respectively. It will be a battle of the top two picks in their NFL debut.

Baltimore Ravens vs Denver Broncos

Sunday, September 13th at 3:25 p.m.

You’ll have to toggle between the Buccaneers/Titans game and the Ravens/Broncos game this Sunday. This will be a tough matchup between two great teams. With QB Peyton Manning under center and a high-power offense, it should be a nice matchup for the Ravens’ formidable defense.

Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles

Sunday, September 20th at 3:25 p.m.

This will be an NFC East showdown. The Eagles have made so many moves this offseason, it’s hard to keep up. One to note, is the addition of RB (running back) DeMarco Murray, who will be facing his former team for the first time.

Plus, Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is always a fun player to watch. However, Bryant will be facing a new Eagles cornerback who could give him a run for his money, all $70 million of it.

Seattle Seahawks vs Green Bay Packers

Sunday, September 20th at 7:30 p.m.

The last time these teams met, the Packers were leading the way against the Seahawks and it looked like they were heading to the Super Bowl. That is, until Seattle came to life in the fourth quarter and defeated Green Bay in overtime, 28-22. The Packers seek revenge in this NFC Championship game rematch.

San Francisco 49ers vs Arizona Cardinals

Sunday, September 27th at 3:05 p.m.

The 49ers have lost a few key players this offseason, but gained DT (defensive tackle) Darnell Dockett from the Cardinals. This will be the first time he returns to the University of Phoenix Stadium in what promises to be an interesting showdown.

Another thing to note—girl power! Jen Welter is the first female coach in the NFL. She was on the Cardinals coaching staff during training camp and through the preseason earlier this year.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Green Bay Packers

Monday, September 28th at 7:30 p.m.

The history is rich and the storyline dates back to 1967 when these two teams faced each other for the very first Super Bowl, which was, at the time called the AFL-NFL World Championship. Since we’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl this year, this Monday-night matchup will be a must see on ESPN.

That’s it for this month. Mark your calendars, make some great tailgate snacks, and get comfy on the couch for these must-see games in September.

Are there any games I missed? Which ones will you be making time for this season?
