Rachel Santschi’s October Sports Guide

The leaves are changing, and the weather’s cooling down. That must mean it’s October!

October is one of my favorite months (not just because it’s my birthday month), but it’s also the perfect month for sports fans. There are a number of games to choose from, including college football, MLB playoffs, and the NFL games—all happening this month. We’re almost to the end of it, so here are a few games you should mark on your calendar.

All times are in Central Time.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

#10 West Virginia at Oklahoma State

Saturday, October 29th at 11:00 a.m. on FOX

West Virginia looks to remain perfect in the Big 12 in a game sure to light up the scoreboard.

#4 Washington at #17 Utah

Time: Saturday, October 29th at 2:30 p.m. on FS1

The up-start Huskies face what might be their toughest remaining test of the regular season. A road trip to face the Utes is never easy—it’s even more difficult when you’re undefeated and you have the Pac-12 Championship in your sights.

#7 Nebraska at #11 Wisconsin

Saturday, October 29th at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN

The undefeated Huskers face their biggest test so far this season as they look to knock off the Badgers.

#3 Clemson at #12 Florida State

Time: Saturday, October 29th at 7:00 p.m. on ABC

A match-up of ACC heavyweights in what will be one of Clemson’s toughest tests all year.

MLB

The baseball playoffs started earlier this month and we’ve already seen a lot of drama and intense action. The World Series begins tonight at 7:00 p.m. on FOX in Cleveland, Ohio, as the Cubs face the Indians in Game 1.

NFL

New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills

Time: Sunday, October 30th at 12:00 p.m. on CBS

The last meeting saw the Bills hand the Patriots their first ever shutout loss at Gillette Stadium. Tom Brady was suspended for that one but will be back under center for the rematch.

San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos

Time: Sunday, October 30th at 3:05 p.m. on CBS

These two teams met two weeks ago on Thursday Night Football in a nail biter that resulted in a Chargers upset. Denver will enter this game with payback in mind.

Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys

Time: Sunday, October 30th at 7:30 p.m. on NBC

The NFC East’s biggest rivalry and top teams face off in what promises to be a wildly entertaining game with high-powered offenses.

FOOD FOR THE GAMES

As I always say, you can’t watch football without some great couch-gating food. Here’s one recipe I absolutely love and get this—it’s pretty healthy. I can’t claim it as my own, though, I found it on Pinterest and it’s phenomenal.

I usually enjoy this snack with either ranch or blue cheese dressing!
