Beach Vibes: Perfect Your Summer Makeup Routine

Summer is here, girls! And here are my special summer makeup tips for you. Whether you’ll be spending some time at the beach or sipping margaritas by the pool with your girlfriends, here’s how to perfect your summer makeup routine.

Skin

My first bit of advice is to FAKE THAT TAN! Do not go to a tanning booth. Do a nice spray tan session instead. It’s much safer and cancer-free.

If you’re on a budget or would simply rather do it yourself, here are the products that I recommend.

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs—this is a lightweight spray-on makeup and it comes in a big variety of shades, making it easy to match your skin tone.

Clarins Delicious Self-Tanning Cream—this is another amazing product. It has a great cocoa-like smell and a tinted caramel color for easy application. It’ll give you a natural-looking golden glow that develops in just a few hours. It’s my personal favorite.

Cheeks

As for makeup, I’d say that highlighting and contouring is the way to go. It’s summer and you want to show the parts of your face where the sun is supposed to hit and shadow the parts where it doesn’t. So use your shimmer powders, shimmer blushes, and highlighting creams. Applying shimmer blush on the apples of your cheekbones also looks great and fresh. Contour slightly the hollow part of your cheeks. But be careful. It’s easy to overdo this.

Here are some of my favorites.

Milani Baked Blush—this blush is a must try! It’s easy to blend and is super pigmented. It leaves your skin with a subtle glow…perfection!

Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Color—this comes highly recommended. It complements bronzed as well as pale skin and creates an ultra-natural look that wears well throughout the day. What I like most is that it has a soft shimmer that isn’t over the top.

Lips

Keep your lips natural because it’ll complement the tan you’ve got going on. Always use a lip balm with SPF. You want to make sure to protect your lips from the sun at all times just like you would any other bit of exposed flesh. You can use a lip balm with a bit of color in it, like a delicate pink, or a neutral Lip Butter.

I would stay away from colors like burgundy or deep red because winter is over!

Eyes

Keep your eye makeup as minimal as possible. During the summer, bronzy, shimmery eye shadows work best and also help enhance your tan. Avoid using black liner in your bottom waterline, as it can look too strong and harsh during summertime.

All that’s left to do is curl your lashes and put on a light coat of mascara. If you’re going in the water, a great liner for the summer is Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Liner.

Are there any summer products you’d recommend? If so, please share!

That’s it! Keep it simple, keep it fresh, and enjoy the summer beach vibes. And don’t forget to always protect your skin with SPF!
