A Mother’s Journal: The First 5 Months

I’m that annoying mom who talks baby stuff like it’s the only thing I have going on—poopy diapers, tummy time, growth spurts, height and weight percentiles, teething tricks, scooting vs. crawling.  I promised never to become this person.  Even when I was single or married without children, I avoided those mom parties, the places where moms herd…graze…compare…

A Mother's Journal: The First Five Months | Model BehaviorsHow long does your baby sleep at night? Oh my gosh, she’s been sleeping eleven hours straight since she was born.

Is your baby crawling yet? No, she prefers walking and she’s only five months old.

Do you have your baby on a schedule? Actually, she keeps me on a schedule—she’s already proficient at Outlook.

Just ike our babies’ lives, our lives too have been reduced and chronicled to a series of questions?

Are you single?  Are you dating anyone? Is it serious? When’s the  engagement? When’s the wedding? When are you having kids? Gonna have any more?  Gonna go back to work? Where are your kids going to school? How do you keep your marriage alive? Where are your kids going to college? Now what are you going to do? Are you on hormone therapy?

It kind of seems to me that the stages of life are basically the same, but the paths we take to get there make the difference.  Same for our kiddos: they eat, they sleep, they poop, they bathe, they communicate, and they get from point A to point B—whether they crawl, scoot, roll, or grandma brings them there.  Which reminds me, anyone with kids ten years old or older doesn’t remember the exact details anyway, and if they say that they do (um), they’re lying. If it weren’t for these journal entries, I wouldn’t even be able to tell you what happened yesterday.

But thankfully I can, and here’s what I’ve gathered over Darlington’s last five months.

A Mother's Journal: The First 5 Months | Model Behaviors

LIKES: football and soccer games, cute boys, flying through the air like Superbaby, sleeping with her lovey on her face, dad coming home from work, singing during diaper changes, The Voice, running her hand under the faucet during bath time, and kisses and snuggles the minute she wakes up

DISLIKES: when mom tries to teach her how to hold her bottle, socks or shoes on her feet, waiting for a bottle

FAVORITE POSITIONS: laying sideways with head on mom’s lap and watching The Voice, in the carrier on the sidelines or helping mom cook, and the H after hours

FAVORITE PRODUCT FOR MOM: I’ve decided to go low maintenance and embrace my waves with Liquid Rollers from EVO. This is the best product I’ve ever tried for waves. It supports body while battling frizz.

MOM’S FAVORITE PRODUCT FOR BABY: Infant ZoLi ‘Breathe’ Nasal Aspirator

BEST ADVICE FROM OUR PEDIATRICIAN: Top off. That means, if Darlington goes to bed at 7 pm, feed her a bottle when I go to sleep at 11 pm (or 2 am).

BEST ADVICE FROM ANOTHER MOM: Don’t be so hard on yourself!

MY BEST ADVICE FOR NEW MOMS: Don’t think about what you have to get done, just do it. Everything works itself out, or there’s always tomorrow.

IMMUNIZATIONS: Dr. Bob’s Selective Vaccine Schedule

BEST MOMENT AT 4 ½ MONTHS:

Thanks for reading my latest journal entry. I hope you’ve enjoyed it half as much as I love being a mom.  If you have any advice, products, or photos that you’d like to share, leave them in the comments or feel free to shoot me an email.

XOXO—T
